Can the 1st bottom on a 548 4 bottom 18" plow be removed, so that it can be used a s a 3 bottom.

I measured the front hitch and there is enough room to move the hitch over exactly 18 inches.

I have a manual for an old 565 plow and it can be done on that plow.

I also have a manual for a 588 which says nothing about removing the front bottom.

I have not found a 548 manual yet. I have been watching e-bay.

Thanks in advance.

There is a little more to it than just moving the hitch bar over, but I see absolutely no reason it can't be done. You'll need to adjust the whole center of draft on the plow or else it'll pull crooked. Look in the manual for the 565 for how that has to be adjusted for the different #'s of bottoms and widths.

I'm not familiar with the 548, but we own a 546 4-16 and a 565 3-16

Hi , If you are interested you might get a reprint or possibly a original manual from the Floyd co. museum . Call them at (641) 228-1099 and see what's available .
