If you don"t have the belt pully unit or a power booster on your 88, you can change it without pulling the engine.
Just remove the hood & fuel tank and remove the PTO shaft, Steering arm, clutch rod, throttle linkage an may need to unbolt the four bolts that holds the dash and lean it back toward the seat if you need more room?. Unbolt the and slide the couple on the clutch shaft toward the transmission main shaft.
Using a long socket exstentions to get to the bolts under the bell houseing. Once the bolts are removed slide the clutch shaft back toward the transmission shaft as far as it will go then slide the bell housing out at the same time picking up of the tail of the bell housing as you slide it out holding the clutch shaft while doing this.
Worked for me when I changed the clutch on my super. Good luck! Mike
