I have a few more questions and comments. I"ve used it a couple days, the pump seems to get pretty hot, burns a persons hand. I mentioned it seemed hot the 30 minutes I used it before they picked it up the last time. Today, the end on the steel line that goes around from the pump side to the hyd. valve around above the hyd. fill hole went out, leaks very bad, the end that connects to the T connector on the left side of the hyd. reservoir. That line looks recently replaced, it still has a new looking barcode sticker on it, and the end was on tight. Possibly the pump is going bad? I see by the paint that is off they were messing with that compensator (or whatever) valve/screw adjustment on the side of the pump. Possibly bad pump? It seems like it works a little slow especially when warm, similar symptoms to a pump on my 1855, blew out the same line the same way. I"ve got a spare pump, but I asked them to check out the pump before they brought it, everything was guaranteed to work right.

Also, the paint on the rear end is coming off where there were leaks. I rubbed some more off, and it looks like the entire back end is green underneath the black paint. Axles, underside, everything. Would that have been the case with a White or would the rear end have been changed?

It does not start without ether at 30 degrees, the preheater does nothing and I"m pretty sure it"s working. I asked them about that in a letter when they picked it up, no response. I told them to check injectors and compression.

Couple other notes on the deal. It has an exhaust leak, I told them to fix it before they brought it the first time, and the second time, they did nothing. I said It needed done, to call if they had questions, I"d have paid if I had to. It leaks into the cab enough that I have to have the windows open, I smelled a little but by the time I thought much of it, I had a bad headache. I think that ring seal thing is out on the turbo, don"t really see how that would be ready to sell as bad as it is. It looks like the bolts will break if a person tries to take off that elbow, and I don"t have anything to put in new threads.

The temperature gage did not work at all the first time. When they picked it up I told them to fix it, they put in another one, looked old, glass not clear. It didn"t work either, it went to 145 degrees and stopped every time.

Tractor is supposed to have about 4000 hours on it. Gage was broken, new one put in, he said he was sure of the hours and it was advertised that way. Thoughts and suggestions from buying this from an Agco dealer, ready to go, and using it only a couple days?

It sounds like you ran into a crummy dealership there if they dont fix per your requests. I work at a dealership and i can understand your pain in being told one thing and whats really going on isnt true. We got one salesman at my dealership that wont stick a DIME into any trade-in, and that bugs me terrible. Alot of these units have tons of bugs, and he dont care....he just jacks the price sky high and sometimes they sell. Its not right to sell someone something thats told this, and is nothing more then traded in and washed- as it sounds like in your case. Good luck with that tractor- they were pretty good units in their day, and they still aint too bad

Buying from a dealer is just like buying from a stranger, you have to check things out top to bottom, get someone who has experience with the type of tractor you are looking at if you are not familiar with it. I speak from experience also and have found far better and honest equipment at auction sales. I know some salesman are trustworthy, but I have not met many that are, also I would switch that pump as soon as possibel before you fry all the o-rings in the system, be sure and prime and bleed it properly. Use a I&T manual if you are not sure of procedure. About the green paint, our 4-150 has green paint under the black paint on the rear castings, guessing they were left over oliver rear ends during the white transition.

I am very familiar with an 1855. I looked at it. They said everything was guaranteed to work. I told them specifically to make sure the pump was good, I had a whole list of things to check out. Hydraulics were at the top of the list, been there, done that. I also recorded every conversation I had with them. That pump was a pre existing condition, so they should fix it, because I told them it was hot right away the first time they brought it and I put on basically 0 hours.

No advice here, just a similar story. I'm young, still in school, and bought an Oliver 1655 from a dealer last year. It was my first dealer purchase and I trusted him. He was real freindly till i paid in full, and then seemed like he didn't want much to do with me, like he had other more important stuff. He told me that it had a major overhaul, but it recently blew up and when i tore it down, I found it had never been rebuilt. I used to think that buying from a dealer meant you were buying something decent, but I think now I would really check anything over before I bought it. Josh

We own a 75 model 105 and yes I've seen green paint also, not alot, but it's still there. Sounds like a nightmare I'm sorry! I'd be tempted too raise three kinds of h!@@ but that might make matters worse. I would call a lawyer to see if you have any buyer protection rights. I hope I phrased that right. Good luck.

There is a free site to ask real lawyers questions, I didn't check with any local ones yet. As long as they rolled it off the truck and I "accepted" delivery, I'm pretty much out of gas.... I don't quite know how a person is supposed to tell much by just looking at it, or something, but I don't know. The dealer wants nothing to do with it, I was calm, no name calling, they won't fix it as of yet. I don't quite know what I could have done differently, told them to check it, it was in the original work order, and I have most conversations recorded that I could legally record. Slightly frustrating.

You've got great control over you temper, that's for sure. The tractor we bought sight unseen, I like you trusted what the dealer told me. They gave me the previous owners home phone number which I called but one can't tell if the truth is being told. I had to trust the dealers discription and trust me if they would have scr@#$% me it would have been all over the web! But I have bought parts from them before and they have never treated me wrong, They even give me installation advice which helped out alot. Can the Better Business Bureau help in this situation? I don't really know. As always, good luck.

I don"t know yet, I was going to change the pump myself, probably will, but I"m holding off for now. I sent a letter to Agco directly describing everything that was said. Won"t do any good but I thought I"d start there. As to keeping my temper under control, it seems pretty much every time I do anything at all "something" happens, so I just expected it. I looked two months to find something I liked, it wouldn"t have mattered if it was a new one, something would have happened no matter what kind or where I got it....
