Hey
I just recently bought a 1959 Cockshutt 540 from a neighbor who was selling his cottage and had been using it to maintain his beach property and what not. Anyway I went to plow with it and my 3 furrow Massey plow this week and realized that I couldn't set the plow cuz someone previous had welded the leveling arm on the 3PTH. it's broke up pretty bad and i guess they just welded it so it was even with the other arm which is fine for a cultivator and what not. What I'm wondering is if I can make a new one of these or if one say from a Ford 8n can be adapted. I would like to go the path that is most cost effective. Thanks to all in advance for the input

Allan, I have all of those parts reproduced in quite good reproductions of the original parts.
Give me a call if you are interested. I have the Levelling box, thrust bearing, handle, threaded rod weldment, the lower sleeve as well as all of the pins required reproduced to look quite close to original. Give me a call and we can discuss what the 540 needs. I am near Ottawa, Ontario.

I found a piece of hardened threaded rod in the scrap pile that repaired the leveling mechanism on mine and it works great. As long as you have the right length and ball size you should be just fine.
Do you have weighted rear tires? Depending on soil type, you may have some fun with the 3-furrow plow.
Good luck.

Hey, ya my arms are kinda sketchy too, I mean they work but you can see where they have been broke and welded. For the time being though they seem to work alright. What would just the right hand linkage for the three point hitch with the leveling arm cost? I mean just the piece that hooks between the rockshaft and the right 3PTH are? Does anyone have pics of this piece that I could go by to possibly build a new levelling arm? Thanks to all in advance for the input
