Hi guys I was wondering if the sleeves could be taken out of the 230 buda gas engine an install the pistons out of the 273 engine without to much difficulty what would be a safe overbore limit if the cylinders needed to be bored!

Thanks for any info!!

As was stated the 273 has no sleeves. Also there were at least 4 configerations of the 230 engine that I know of and the sleeves are different in most of them. The very late model 230 engines such as in the AII Gleaner were a 230 built in a 262 block so the 262 sleeves will fit these. All the cranks are interchangeable in the 262,273 and 230 I believe of course different pistons were used. You really need to tear them down to see what you have.

I am not sure if I understand you 100%. A 230 Buda is a wet sleeve engine 3.437 bore if I remember correctly. A 273 Buda has no sleeves and is a cast en-block engine. Now there is also a 262 A-C engine that has a 3.5625 bore and a 4.375 stroke compared to the 4.125 stroke on a 230 or 273. I never measured the sleeves up on the 230 or the 262 to see if the larger sleeves will drop right in the block. Also when I worked on the aftermarket side we offered and overbore kit for a 230. Now if you need more details I need to look in a book. More questions? J.

I was told that I could tell the difference between a model 40 and 50 engine based on the presence or lack thereof of removable freeze plugs on the right side. What do these look like? I cant tell if the motor is a 273 or not. All tags and ID marks are gone from the motor.
