Could someone explain 550 tire sizes for me?
My set are as follows. Rear: one 13.6-26 6 ply, one 12.26 4 ply. Front: one 6.00-16 4 ply, one 6.50-16 6 ply. A bit confusing for a novice like me! What should it have? It is a 1958 Gas, no power steering.
Does it depend on my rims? What rim measurements should I take? I am not aware of different size rims when I looked at my manual.

I put 14.9 x 26 on my rear, I like them much better than the 13.6 x 26 that came with it. The front is 6.00 x 16.

Measure the width of the front rims and the rear rims as well. The width of both front rims should be the same as well as the width of both rear rims. I have an idea for sure the front ones are the same and someone got a bargin when he replaced one of the front tires. I need to do a little looking on the 12.26 size. Is the tread the same type on both tires?

That 12.26 is probably the old 12" tire 26" rim size.

OK, I have just measured the rims. The rears are 28 inches max diameter and 12 in. wide. The fronts are 17.5 inches diameter and 6 inches wide. Same treads on both rears.

Your tractor probably came with 12-26 tires which are now called 13.6-26
But could have possibly came with 14.9-26 ( I dbout it though)
But these days a set of 13.6-26 will run you about $350 to $450 more for a set of them Most guys put on 14.9-26 cuz they're cheaper and a bit easier to get ( but don't hold your breath)
The last 13.6-26's I got I had to order and the only makers now are Firestone, they only make them 2 times a year depending on orders On another note Bias Ply tires are getting harder and harder to find and the companies are not making enough profit from them there is talk of a lot of sizes becoming totally unavailable in the future There used to be Import tires but they're gone now too, with the tire companies buying each other up and looking at purely profit even tractor collecting/using is becoming too expensive

I hope I explained the fact that a 12-26 is the same as a 13.6 - 26
Also the fronts more than likely were 16-6.00
and you need to remove the rims to measure them 16-6.00 is usually on a 4.5" rim could be a 5.5" though
