Have a 1960's Oliver, 6 cyl., gas, Waukesha. Have tried a rebuild carb.,but runs like dog-doo. Would like to know if a new one can be purchased. Markings of Marvel-Schebler USX26 and also a U3X. Great tractor for snow removal, but needs a new carb. Did try one from a John Deere, just to make sure it was a carb. problem, ran great, but won't hook up. HELP!!!!!

What wouldn't "hook up" ? jd and Oliver carbs both mount on the same side of the engine, throttle linkage and air cleaner pipes both go to front. Just curious.

It was probably the third adjustment screw that got in the way. It is an ego adjustment screw (the largest one) which is required on all JD products. One thing to remember is that the richer the ego setting, the leaner the intellect becomes. This can frequently be offset by increasing the rate of burn of allocated tractor funds. Although this seems to be the preferred method of choice by those who own those faded green tractors, it is not recomended and indeed foreign to all Oliver owners.

The "walking beside the tractor as it works" is an attempt to spoon feed extra cash onto the mixture in an attempt to try and fool the carb into believing it was still on a JD. This is a "false economy". It would behoove you to get an appropriate replacement. My opinion...

Yeah, he was definetely trying to fool it. I don't think I want an Oliver if you have to walk beside it.
Would'nt a garden tiller do better, at least you could walk behind it and not be in danger of run over, and he could hook an enema bag w/tube on the handle bars for the extra feeding line.

Here is the best way to fix any USX carb...
Take it off and see how far you can throw it. Then go buy any carb (other than an USX) to replace it. The Marvel-Schebler USX carb are junk. Don't waste your time trying to rebuild them. They run lean under full load. This is why alot of gas tractors run so hot when you use them hard. I've replaced more than 10 of these USX carbs and have made plenty of farmers happy. (John Deere doesn't sell parts for the USX carbs. They recommend you to buy a replacement carb)

First, thank you Bill for you intelligent answer to my very real problem - second, thanks to "Duh" for expressing the meaning of his name ----Now, Bill, can you tell me what carb. to replace it with, after we throw it just as far as we can? Is there something that will hook up reasonably well? The JD worked great as long as we wanted to run along side the tractor as it worked!
