After pretty well convincing myself Cockshutt hadn't produced any tractors, either Co-op or Cockshutt, using the pre-war Co-op #2 and #3 running gear (Chrysler Ind motor, Dodge Trk trans, a reduction box and Dodge Trk diff) here's what I find in a parts catalog I'd overlooked:
Cockshutt 1948 Mod 40 Eng Chry T120,IND 8A
Can anyone tell me whether this one years model (49 to 56 use the Buda) also had the Dodge Trk trans and diff??? Any comments or leads appreciated.

The only CO-OPs that were built by Cockshutt were
the 20, 30, 40, 50, 540, 550, 560 and 570. All
other CO-OPs were rebadged Olivers, Hubers, Fiats,
Cletracs, Allis or were built for midwest Farm
Bureaus and the National Farm Machinery Co-op by
various manufacturers. Cannot explain your parts
book find, but as others said the 40 wasn't made
till 1949. CO-OP was still in production when the
Cockshutt Co. started to build tractors so they
continued building CO-OPs at the same time as purchasing the new Cockshutt 30 tractor. Since the
30 was their only model both Cockshutt and CO-OP
purchased various Oliver models till 1948 and some CO-OPertives continued production into 1951-2

The first Co-op tractors were not built by Cockshutt and were as you mention with the Mopar powerplants, gears & such As memory serves they were made in Indiana or Ohio and maybe just after post war time

Steve and John: Many thxx for the rapid (and reassuring) response; parts catalogs are notoriously contradictory. John: No further info is needed, and thxx again.

We had a 1948 Cockshutt 30 with the 153C Buda engine. It had IPTO,4x2 trannie and a live hyd.pump for remotes. It set under an F 10 farmhand and we used it many years to stack loose hay.Sold it to a friend who restored it and when he moved he sold it to a feller in Central City NE.

Cockshutt did not use any tractors with the Coop type tractor set up. Also the model 40 with the Buda was not even made in 1948. Final drive and transmission in a model 40 is a Cockshutt design. More detail later if it rains. J.
