Thanks to all who helped indentify the 1955 Super 55 but I need more information. After several years sitting in an eastern New Mexico pasture, today I got the tractor runnning. It runs great with absolutely no smoke or blow-by. Winched it on the trailer but drove it off. Oddly, this tractor has the 3-point hitch with the lift but it has no PTO. It appears to have never had a PTO. Where the PTO shaft normally exits the rear of the tractor, there is just a plate. Was this normal to have the 3-point without a PTO? Can a PTO be added? If not, what can this tractor be used for?

you know you can get a copy of ther build tag from the Floyd County Museum
just send or call with your serial number you will get a copy of the build tag,the date it rolled off the line and the day it was shipped, a copy of the price list to dechiper the codes on the build sheet, also the place it was shipped to. what else would a guy need. You can then celebrate your tractors birtyday too!!!
All for $10.00 per tractor

I'm curious. What kind of plate was on the exit hole? Is it cast or flat steel? If you are going to fix it up, you can get the correct grill and top cover from Korves.

The plate appears to be cast and original equipment. And yes, I know about Korves. I just got a carb kit for the Carter on this tractor from them. Super fast shipping and friendly communications.

Congrats on getting the old girl going again.
The Industrial models (at least the 550) didn"t come with the PTO (or the 3 pt.) as standard. Your adjustable front axle shows that it"s a std. Super 55. Probably it was ordered with a PTO delete for some reason, they do pop up that way from time to time. It could be retro fitted with a PTO using the normal parts.

i imagine you would need to split the tractor to install pto, because the 550 and super 55 are same as far as i know. 550 has live pto using clutch packs behind engine clutch. If tractor was ordered w/o pto all that may not be in there.

Now I wonder if this is an industrial model, if these units were the same color as the others, i.e., green and yellow? I had planned to work on the tractor with a high pressure sprayer and sandblaster and do some repainting if the weather continues to permit out here on the High Plains.

the tractor was special ordered not to have a pto, for the simple reason of the original owners dident want it. either the tractor was used to pull gang mowers, or the people dident have any other equipment that ru off of a pto. its not that uncommon. you just happen to have one of few tractors that never had a pto eventually put in it.
