I looked at an 1850 Diesel this weekend. It seemed like it was in real good shape, with the hydraul shift. asking price is $3500. I am not at all familiar with the later Olivers. Is the perkins engine have any major troubles? What about the hydraul shift?
Thanks

You can't go wrong with an 1850 with the Perkins engine. We have 3 of them.

Thanks for all the info on the 1850. I will check it out one more time and take it for a drive before I decide to buy.

Mine is a gas, but they are very reliable and lots of power for the size/wt. I would also agree on the others comparison to a 4020. You could spend 3 to 4 times as much on a good 4020 and not gain anything except a different shade of green paint. Glad you found a diesel, my gas is THIRSTY while under load.

My dad has had his 1850 since the early 70's and had very little trouble with it. We rebuilt the motor when it had 6000 hrs and now it has over 10,000 hrs. We have never been into the 3 spd shift and it works great. Very good motor and nice to operate. Weve put in the hyd pump twice over the years but use it pretty hard. My opinion would be way cheaper than a 4020 deere and just as nice to operate.
