I have a chance to purchase this old Oliver but not having dealt with Olivers in the past, I know little about their models and years. The little tractor is about the size of a Ford 8N but appears to be much heavier duty. I am guessing the unit was built in the 1960s as it has overhead valves and a 6-speed transmission but I am at a loss to find any model information of it. The owner also does not know what model it is. Any help is much appreciated.

Looks to be an Oliver Super55, there is an ID tag just above the clutch on the left side of the tractor, the lower set of numbers are the serial number. they made the Super 55 from 1954 to 1958 starting at 6001 to 59033 depending on the year. the grill is different on this tractor for some reason. post the numbers if you can.

Thanks for the reply. With a little more internet research, I too came to the conclusion it is probably a Super 55. Today, I am trying to repair a locked down AC compressor on my GMC and replace a flywheel ring gear on an 8N so it will be next week before I can drive over to see the tractor again. It is about thirty five miles from me. However, I do recall seeing the aluminum I.D. tag with the serial number on the left side though. The guy says the tractor was running when he parked it two years ago but he has been unable to get tuneup parts. He primarily just wants to get it off his property.

Thanks for the reply. I had also come to this conclusion with additional research.

Super 55 with some very poor aftermarket grills or some kind of generic "one fits all" type grills.

Agreed on the poor aftermarket grills. I have dealt with many of these poorly fitting, hold-your-mouth-just-right-and-squint-your-eyes-and-it-may-start-looking-like-an-OE-grill in my Ford 8Ns. The difference in price to go to restoration quality part just does not warrant the hassle of an ill-fitting ugly grill. Aye but farmers tend to be very thrifty when it comes to their tractors(I did not say cheap.) Grin.

Also looking at the pictures the tractor is either a 54,55 or 56 model.
