Hey Does anyone out there have a price on a tachometer cable for a 1959 Cockshutt 540? Mine is missing and needs to be replaced. I also need a new tach if those are still available aswell. Also where does the cable for the tach run off of the motor? the governor? Anyhow thanks to all in advance and I look forward to replys

Apparently you can order an alternator with a reduction gearing for a tach hookup, but they are very rare ( so says my generator rebuilder). That was the reason that I did not change over to an alternator this past summer and stayed with my original generator on the 540.

What is a rebuilt Cockshutt Generator with the tach hook up worth?

I am getting a new tach for mine but identical originals are not available, so I am going with a new tach for an Oliver 550 and having it reworked to fit the 540. However, you might want to try another avenue since you dont have a tach hookup on the alternator. If you can find a new electric tach that you like then you could get an alternator with electric tach hookup. Check with AGCO dealer on availability of new alternators.
Email me if you have further questions.

Hey
You said that your using a tach for an Oliver 550. What sort of reworking did you mean, like to make it fit or something. Also does it look something like the original or doesx it say like Oliver in bold on the face? I guess in this case beggars can't be choosers.

The Delco generator would cost about $300 and the gear drive about $120. The Oliver 550 speedo-tach ( no oliver name on it) has to be mounted into the 540 mounting panel and the face plate ground to a 3 inch diameter. Speedo-tach and cable about $175.

The tach runs off the rear of the generator, bet your generator has been replaced sometime before.I measured length of cable from generator to tach and bought one from NAPA.

Yes my generator has been replaced with an alternator, is there any other place where I can conect a tach cable?
