I have a 1550 diesel that is running rough and smokes pretty bad below 1000 rpm. It still smokes a little over 1000, but smooths out and sounds ok. It has good power. could my problem be a bad energy cell??? And if so, what are some tips on removing them if they all seem to be seized??? I would like to know more about the purpose and function of energy cells. Any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

First of what color smoke? Next thing I would do is find a set of ear plugs and remove the exhaust manifold start the tractor and see which cylinder(s) the smoke comes out of. Start there and get back with me and I will take you to step 2. There were probably better than 200 of the Oliver diesels with energy cells around here. Only seen one that needed to be cleaned. A bad spray pattern on your fuel injection nozzle will clog them,
