I have a plow that has decals showing it's a 566. I believe Oliver didn't make a 566 in 4 bottoms. My plow is a 4-16 with a four bottom main beam, no add ons. The serial number sticker is in really bad shape but it appears to read 15431 or 15131. The model number on this tag looks like 360 LOW or 360 HOW. There might be some other letters or numbers before the 360, I can't really tell. Any help with this would be appreciated. I would like to restore this plow and I would like to get the right decals for it. Thank-you.

Hi , I don't know much this but I have a 565 4 bottom . I also have the owners manual which lists the 566 as only 5 to 8 bottom plows . The 565 is 3 to 5 bottoms . Take care ...Randy

Model 565 plows were manufactured in 3 to 6 bottoms and 566 were 5 to 8 bottoms.

The backbone was made of a thicker material on 566 as compared to 565. The 565 backbone measures 4 1/8" x 6". 566 measures 4 1/4" x 6".

I measured the backbone today and it measures 6 x 4 1/8. This must be a 565 plow that someone at one point put 566 decals on. The existing decals on it look like original though. I will try and take a picture of the plow and post it on here.

I'm not wanting to disprove Mr. Star as he's probably forgot more than I'll ever know and I value and appreciate his wisdom and guidance. However, I've looked in the "Better Farming for Better Living" Oliver book from 1966 and it says the 566 was offered in 4 to 8 bottom and the 565 in 3 to 6 bottom. I personally have a 566 in the 5 bottom version and I too didn't think they were offered in the 4 bottom. Maybe the book is wrong or the 566 4 bottom version is extremely rare?

AB,

You quoted the 1967 Oliver spring buyers guide when they said the 566 plow was avalible in 4 to 6 bottoms.

If you also check the 1964 1965 1966 and the 1968 buyers guides you will see that the smallest 566 plow was a 5 bottom.

I think the 1966 buyers guide is a mis-print.

1966 was also the year Oliver came out with the 575 plow, and they changed the 566 to a 5 to 8 bottom plow, and did away with the 568 plow for a short time.

This is one (very few) mis-prints I have see in different brochures, both in Oliver and other brands.

As long as we are talking the full line Oliver buyers guides from the 1960's, in one of them is a picture of a Oliver tractor that was never put on the market as it appears. I'll bet very few people ever spotted it.

I ment to say the 1967 guide is a mis-print.

Now I've got myself confused -+={]]{"':;>.~`<,/[){)(????.

What I ment to say was: I think the 1964 1965 1967 1968 and the 1969 buyers guides are correct, and the 1966 guide has the mis-print.
