This may be a bit off topic, but I just wanted to relate an experience that happened to me. If you use ebay, you should be aware of a "second chance offer' scam. There are real second chance offers, but some one uses the non winning bidders emails, sends what looks like a real second chance offer and asks for informaton that they could use to access your account. If you get one of these report it to ebay, and do not hit any of the links on the fake page. I was suspicious enough that I tried to avoid giving out any info myself, but I won't say I am not totally feeling safe. I also got something from paypal that I did not ask for. I changed my passwords on both accounts just to make sure. Be careful. Too bad there are jerks out there scamming people. Kind of takes the enjoyment right out of doing business on the net.

I bought a repair manual on second chance offer about 4 years ago. That offer was on the level. I know a guy who sells new parts on Ebay. he says if the bid is high engough and if you have 2 of the same item, it makes sense to sell a second item to the backup bidder for $1 less.

Yes, there are legetimate offers, but like evielboweivel says, check it for authenticity in your ebay messages in your "My Ebay" account.

Is there any way to tell a valid 2nd chance offer from a fraud? I've recieved 3 or 4 of these in the past few years and have deleted all of them. A couple I wish I had looked into. Kind of answering my own question, I suppose Ebay will tell you if its valid or not after its reported?
Has any one actually bought anything from 2nd chance offer?

The first thing to do is ask yourself was my bid close? I got one of those "2nd chance" ofers and my max bid was over $1000 less than the winning bid. A lot of people had outbid me. Obvious fraud.

IF it is valid it will be in your messages on my ebay. If fake then only in your email account. paypal is the same way
always access ebay and paypal thru your links never thru emailed links

Don't trust any 2nd chance offers - supposedly they are OK if they come thru your eBay messages, but I got one that came thru official channels - I suspected it so I recontacted seller direct independent of responding to offer and he verified tractor was gone.

That is a great tip.... never thought of that. Thanks greatly! But you know what? I contacted ebay cause I thought it smelled fishy. They sent me a generic reponse about second chance offers and they never mentioned to look in my account messages.
