Modified Drawbar Assembly on Super 55

My 1955 Super 55 has had several upgrades before I purchased it, one of which is a swinging drawbar assembly.

The assembly is missing a very key component - the drawbar! Now I'm on the hunt for one that will fit.

The problem is that I don't believe this assembly is factory for the S55. The upper braces look to be 2 pieces of steel welded together and bent to fit into the upper bracket. The lower portion looks to fit fine without any noticable modifications. It fits very well, but because of this, I'm concerned that it may be a modified assembly from another model.

Do any of you know if the drawbars were the same for the different models of tractors (in other words, will a drawbar from a 60 fit my assembly), or will I need to figure out what I have and look for the appropriate drawbar?

I would consider selling the assembly and going to a standard Cat I drawbar for a reasonable price if anyone is interested in it.

Thanks,
Justin in Indiana

I have a draw bar on one tractor that obviously has had a hard live I am think of going to the steel shop and replacing it (just the Draw bar)
It is 7/8" X 2" X 24 1/2 Long bar stock should be no biggie to reproduce I don't believe it's hardened

Ah, thanks for the dimensions! I will do a few measurements and see if something like that would work with my assembly. If so, I may try the fabrication route as well. Thanks for the info!

I can't Brushhog or mow with the drawbar assy. in place I have looked at 66's and I think 77's that swinging drawbar assy's. Appears to be the same. BUT I have never held them side by side to make sure they are the same.

We used to have a 58 550. The drawbar on it had to be removed to use the PTO. The lower portion of it fit into two brackets under the axle and locked in with pins. Then there was a hoop-like piece that came out about 12-18 inches. The drawbar portion was mounted to that. There there were two braces that came up and mounted to the toplink with the normal pin.

My drawbar still allows the use of the PTO, but I've noticed the implement shaft will rub on the swing rail if the terrain changes quickly. Sounds like the same assembly though.

I do brush hogging with mine on, and I use my rear boom with it on, I just swing my tongue off to the side so it doesnt interfere. I did notice I cant use a 3 point plow with it on, but I use a pull behind 2 bottom plow. They are a nice option!
