Is there anyway to determine if an used injector pump has been turned up? My original pump leaked and they wanted $3500 to fix. I got a used one form Maibach's but the tractor seems to have alot more power. It pulls 5 bottoms in 4th high without really working. I don't know if I am pushing it and I don't want to replace a clutch anytime soon. The mechanic who installed did advance the timing also.

You could check to see if the Caterpillar factory seals are still on the pump. This will tell you that it is still set to Cat specs. But do you know if this pump come off an ag tractor or some other application. For these engine were capable of 210hp from the factory and they still would have the seals on them. The only other way to make sure is to get some one who has a Cat rack setting tool group for that engine and check the rack setting. That information should be on your serial number plate on the vavle cover. Hopes this helps.
