Does anyone on here have any ideas what I could use to cover my corn silage pile? I would like to stay away from commercial bunker covers, they are too expensive. I have been busy chopping corn with my 1650 and need to get the pile covered with more rain on the way this weekend. We had about 1 inch the last 2 days and the top layer of the pile is pretty wet now.

Big outfit near me uses the black plastic held in place by large round hay rolls.

We always used a black plastic at the old farm always worked out good. I think farmtek at 800 476 9715 can help they're reasonable. Good luck!

I agree and the new stuff white top black bottom stuff is tuffer than the old black rolls we used to use. much easier to put tires on without puncturing. And the white on top doesn't get as hot as black.

I was thinking of using regular 6 mil clear plastic. What is the benefit of using the plastic that's white on top and black on the bottom? I was planning on using tires to hold the plastic down.

This is a deal where you get what you pay for. For the trouble it takes, and benefits you get in protecting quality, put a real cover on. Most folks in South now use the type that is white on top, black on bottom side. Then cover generously w/ old tires to keep wind off. Suggest you put line of silage, lime, whatever around edge to keep wind out and seal.

Just cover it with wheat. It will sprout and makes a dandy cover.
