For a few seasons I have asked about a howl in my clutch pedal at higher r.p.m.s, have replaced clutch and throw out bearing some 300 hours ago but noise still persists and is getting worse. It seems that I have end play in my crank shaft, something to do maybe with a thrust bearing? Tractor is an '85 110 with 4400 hrs is this normal wear? Is the crank repairable or do I need a new one, Does it depend on if it's chromed or are they all chromed? Just some things I've learned in the last few weeks. Always looking for a second opinion of course. I don't want to ask how long I can run it in this condition but we're close to being done for awhile, I'm wondering what's the worse that could happen? Thanks for replying and all who do.

First of all in 1985 I had been gone for 9 years so no hands on experience. The only 110 I ever worked on was for a man that worked with us and he had an oil pressure problem. Can you set up a dial indicator somehow and check end play? On the crankshaft, I used to have a AERA bulletin that listed probably a dozen 354 Perkins cranks and what was different about them. Sorry about little advice. J.

If your first motion shaft is trying to do the job of controlling crank end-float it needs fixing as the bearing in the flywheel is not designed for axial loading - and prolly not the bearing on the g/box input either.
Everything is repairable at a cost. Just depends on degree of wear.

Thanks to both of you for answers - it seems to have about a nickel's worth of end play just guessing from the front pulley, may take the starter off on a rain day to check closer. J. I think I may have your phone number here I'll have to look, thanks again.
