I looking at a 1956 Cockshutt 35 with the hercules 4 cylinder GO198 gas engine. The engine is seized from water going down the exhaust pipe over the summer.I want to know if parts (pistons, rings, gaskets, etc.) for the engine can still be bought and if they are very expensive.
Thank you Lonnie

Have you tried Hercules? If not, it might be worth a try:

herculesengine.com/contact.htm
Ph. 800-345-0662 (ask for parts department)

For everyone else here, would you let us know how your search turns out?

The Hercules you are refering to is in the business for military and newer Hercules engines. For older engines they will refer you to Jery Biro. He is North America's largest dealer for parts for obsolete Hercules parts. The GO series was made with variations as Hercules was in the business to sell engines. The engine in the 35 is a GO 198. There are also GO-198H engines which have different blocks and cranks and of course rods but most other parts fit. I have to head sets that are Victor sold by Carquest NAPA and others but it is not listed for A GO 198. Have questions let us know.

Forgot to mention that the Hercules owners have some Hercules powered Cockshutt tractors and are members of the Cockshutt club.

Yes, they can be had, and yes, they are pretty pricey. Not available through tractor dealers or conventional sources, for the most part, but there are some guys who specialize in them. One I have heard of is Jerry Biro, 740-745-1475. Some of the other Cockshutt guys on the board will probably chime in. I know complete GO 198's are pretty scarce, as well. Cockshutt 35's and 550's were the only farm tractors to use them, as far as I know, but they were used in many industrial applications (I got my spare off a well drilling rig). Problem there is that the water pump, oil pump, governor, etc. may be different. Good luck with the 35- nice tractors.
