I was mowing the back field for around an hour when I felt down and the hydraulic cover was hot. When I removed the dipstick for the hydraulics, the fluid was foamy. I havent tore into the hydraulics yet, but I am thinking I have an internal leak in the system? Could this be associated with the 3 point leaking down quickly? Its a Super 55 Diesel, with the old hydraulic cover.

Well the serial # is 7-376-518, The dipstick is right infront of the shifter, No field conversion, screws right into the casting. I changed fluid and filter, and used TSC Premium Universal Trans/Hydraulic Fluid, Multigrade SAE 10w-20. Its a 3 point brush hog, 5 footer and its set in position control. The other day I had the cutter hooked up, went out started the tractor went to lift the 3 point, and for the first time the cutter went directly off the ground, all of it. It never does this, but once it warms up it wont do it. Maybe this information may give you clues to whats wrong.

That information helps. I forgot to tell you that there are 4 major killers to any good hydraulic system and you are dealing with three of them. Since you are close to Rudy there I will try to look up some parts you need that he may have on something in the next day or so. Do you still have my e-mail address or phone number? I will be on a business trip later this week for a couple of days, J.

Are the 3 point arms adjustable at the hydraulic part? The ones on my 1800 have an adjustment that sets how far up they will go with the lever, if it is set too high it makes the pump work all the time and will get it hot. I know from experience...

You didn't put beer in there did you ? Now for the serious part, you need to get rid of the foam, it will kill your pump and in short order. Now there are 2 old style covers. Send me a serial number and tell me where your hydraulic dip stick is located. If it is toward the front of the unit does it screw into the casting or into a "standpipe"? Start there. Also is your chopper a 3 point and are you running in position or draft control. Also what are you useing for hydraulic fluid? J.
