I have an Oilver #100 that has the older 219 bottoms on it. Shins, Shares and landsides are completely worn out. I picked up some 419 shares for it and although the bolt holes will work and if I cut the front of the share shorter it will fit, the share itself is much wider (4"+) and the originals are about 2-1/2" wide. This would make the bottom edge of the share run lower than the landside and tailwheel, which I dont think will work right. Am I doomed with this plow? I hate not to be able to use it.

You may still be able to order some of the 219 bottom parts through your New Holland dealer. Ford used the 219 style bottom later than Oliver. Suck up to the parts man (baked goods always worked for ME) and see if he"ll let you browse through the plow section of his P.A.L. system. The 219 bottoms had a curved front upper edge to the landside. There were other bottom styles than the 219/419 as well. Like John I have a couple plow bottom catalogs stashed SOMEWHERE in my "junk", but not available at the moment.

First of all I am not the plow guy, BUT please read your post again. I have read it twice and still don't understand some of your thinking. Also remember the bolts on the points have left hand threads. The share runs lower than the landside. The landside is there for side thrust. Also there have been different designs of them with the passing of time as well as different length ones. Your share (plow point) has to be lower than the tail wheel otherwise the plow will not go in the ground properly. On the shin, The design was probaly changed 40 years ago and I can remember farmers complaining about it (new one not fitting the old holes. Bolts were larger if I remember correctly. I remember one day one of them told another one that was in the store: "that is what they make rat tail files for". Also you say the 219 is an older bottom. My employer explained it to me this way a 219 and the 419 will throw the dirt the same way. The 219 is thinner and cost less. We sold one plow with 219 bottoms in the 60's for some reason. Maybe Oliver Fan has some information on that Some where I have a plow bottom parts book packed away. I don't have the form numer for it but it might be wise to contact the museum and buy one. I also remember we sold a man a new 1650 gas and he traded in a model 100 plow. We sold all them to a jockey who would come around when Yoder and Frey had sale. I remember putting it on his trailer. He would pay $25.00 for each one. Now that is what semimounted plows go for. Does that help any? J.

John,
Sorry for the confusion. On the new shares I have, the front bolthole is back further than the old one. The original has the first bolthole about 1.25" from the front edge of the share, and on the new one the bolthole is 2.5" from the front. When you bolt it on, the front edge of the share will hang way past the outside of the landside. I dont think this looks right. Now, all 3 boltholes on the share will line up so what I thought of doing is trimming off an inch or so of the front of the share so that it doesnt hang way out.

Now the other thing that concerned me was that the share is a quite a bit wider than the originals (an inch or so). The experience I have is that if you had a complete bottom assembly and you placed it on a level floor, it will sit pretty much level. With the shares about an inch or so wider, the whole bottom would not be level, but will tilt upward. I am no plow expert, but that seems "different" than what I am used to.

You probably need a donor plow with acceptable parts on it! Moldboards, moldboard bolts, landsides, and shins are very hard to find. The aftermarket shins I tried didn't fit.

Posted a couple of pics of 14" Raydex short shares that work on 219 14" bottoms if you cut off or remove the front (4th) bolt. O'Brien's or Maibach tractor likely could obtain W217242BS shares for you. Go to the impl photo's for the bolt photo.

I think you are getting all worked about nothing.

Some where I have the service bulletins on the 419 bottoms. If I remember right the only differances between the 219 and 419 was the size of the bolt holes (3/8" vs 7/16) and the number of bolts in the share (3 on the 219 and 4 on the 419).

If the new shares, or as I have always called them points, fit on the bottoms, use them. The 4" shares will become 2 1/2" after about 100 acres of plowing.

The shins may be a different matter. The new ones may be taller, but they will work, just look different than the old ones.

Unless the landside is wore out, I would not replace them.
