Greetings,

I'm an Oliver newbie and just picked up a Super 55 which otherwise runs fine but leaks diesel fuel around the return lines. I have never seen connectors like this before - they look like some kind of push or snap fit into the injectors. Do you just pull them off, or is there something else going on here? The only other diesel I've worked on before is an old VW Rabbit and it's return lines were low pressure and basically rubber hose. Is there a source of parts for these?

I searched the Forum archives but didn't see anything specific.

Any advice appreciated!

thanks,

Bill

Changed mine to rubber fuel hose. If you are not totally concerned with staying original and can accept rubber goes bad over time, it works good. Go to auto parts for steel brake line sections, cut to short lengths as needed and add the fuel hose. Used small spring clamps. Replaced the "T's" also which are available from Agco dealers.

jldjld, that's one awesome, clean looking set of injector/return lines! That's what I need to do ... how did you get the return lines off the tees, is it some kind of push fit? I hesitate to just tug on something if I'm not sure what the consequences are going to be.

thanks,

Bill

They are low pressure and they are 3/16 copper tube unless someone has changed them over to something else. They are available, but sit down when you here the price. You can make all of them up for what one new one cost. They are flared fittings. Questions? J.

Thanks very much for the reply. These return lines are not copper, they are some kind of flexible material, I can actually squeeze them together with my fingers. So maybe it's been changed from original. I'm still not clear on how to get the tubing part away from the tee as there's no apparent way to undo it except to pull it out. If I can get a picture later I will post it so that it's clearer what I'm talking about. Based on the S/N this is a '57 Super 55.

thanks,

Bill

Bill, those are definetly not original lines. From your photo they appear to be ordinary pnuematic "push in/quick release" fittings for industrial use made by Parker, Festo and others. Great for their intended purpose but not as a diesel fuel return line.
To remove the line from the fitting gently push the line into the fitting and push the ring (that the line runs through) towards the fitting. while holding the ring in, pull the line back out. Pushing the ring in flexes the retaining barbs away from the line.

Mike,

Took the lines off - the thread where the tee goes into the injector looks like a standard 1/8 NPT pipe thread. Do you remember if that's the case and, if so, could I use a standard brass hose barb there v. new tees (assuming I used a couple of brass tees elsewhere to do the 4 into 1 thing). Just trying to think of a way to get up and running quickly.

Thanks

Bill

Mike,

Thanks, I'll try it. Every single one of them is leaking.

Bill
