Regarding an Oliver 1550 w/Wauk 232 diesel: Would the following manuals be appropriate for this engine..."Operation and Service" manual for VR Series Wauk, VRG155, 232,265,283,and 310. Copyright 1974, printed 1980. I think these are generic manuals, not specifically printed for Oliver. Thanks, Dennis

I also have a set of those. They are not what you want. For probably what you need I would go with an I & T manual. I don't know if I have one. When I worked for the dealership I purchased my own set of Oliver mnauls so if I need to look up items that is what I use. I am also going to throw you a curve on your tires. The boy has a 674 with a loader and it has the truck ties on the front. For what we do, (no hay no livestock) we will probably not replace them in the next 5 years and we have had the tractor that many years already.

Thanks. I guess that answers that. I think I've seen a lot of I & T manuals on various tractors, so I'll watch for that.

Truck tires: so you are not the only one that has alluded to the fact they are not so bad. Not sure how they would handle here in dirt fields. But I do feel more comfortable about them on the tractor, so it is good to know what folks say about that.

I need to find a new padded seat back for this tractor. Bostrom seat, probably original to the tractor. Guess I'll have to go shopping.

I have found out that the 3 rib tirs are easer to steer than the truck tiers on a manual stering tractor especaly if there is a loader on there

The seat cushions are available from various sources. My brothers and I buy them from Lyle Dumont of Dumont decals. His phone number is 641 622-2592. He has a website. It is www.oliverdecals.

If you have not done so, I recommend that you go to your local Tractor Supply store and pick up a copy of either or both "Oliver Heritage" or "Hart Parr Oliver Collector." They are 2 good magazines about Olivers. They have lots of info on Olivers and lots of advertisements from people that have parts.

The 1550 is a good tractor. It and the 1650 were 2 of the best models Oliver built. It should play with a 3 bottom plow and work good on a 4 or 6 row planter (maybe not minimum til), balers, rakes, 4 and 6 row cultivators, etc. In your posts I've seen you say that you are more familiar with John Deere. So as a point of comparison I'd use the 3020. I am basically an Oliver guy, but I have used them both and I'd take the 1550 diesel over a 3020 diesel anytime.

You should remember they both are 40 years old. So there are things that could cause problems on either an Oliver or a Deere. Most of the guys anwering your questions are probably over 40. Many of us probably have knees that don't work as good as they did when we were teenagers and we probably can't run as fast as when we were in grade school, but that does not mean that mom and dad cut corners when we were just a gleam in their eyes. :>)

I TOO LIKE OLIVERS BUT I ALSO HAVE A FEW DEERES TOO, 3010, 4020, 4230, 4440 AND I DON'T THINK I WOULD COMPARE A 3020 TO 1550. THE OLLIE DONES'NT HAVE WET BRAKES, THE HYD ARE NOT EVEN IN THE SAME CLASS, BUT LIKE I SAID I'M NOT BAD MOUTHING THE OLIVERS BECAUSE I TO AM LOOKING FOR A 1655.
