I've searched archives on this subject and found a little info. Saw one comment about his 232 doing in it's third crankshaft. Another that parts are impossible to find. Other comments seem to think they're OK. Just how good or bad are these engines? Do they make 6,000 hours? (if so I'm really, really safe) I'm about to take the plunge..enough so that I've probably made myself a nuisance on this forum.

we have 2 1550s on the farm and one has 7000 hrs and the other 5000. they have both been rebuilt and were miced as standard. the cranks were great. ive found them to be a very reliable engine...just keep proper maintenance. and dont abuse the engine beyond what it was desigined for. we pulled 4-14 plow with the diesel with 7000 hrs and its an awesome tractor.

Thanks for the encouragment. This will be my first Oliver. I don't have a lot of money to put into something, but I also tend to really want to take good care of things (and usually do). I'm going to use Delo 400 15-40 oil in this and watch things pretty closely. The previous owner says it uses a quart of oil during 100 hours. I doubt that will bother me if it doesn't change suddenly. Old John Deere's I understand, but this Oliver just tugs at my heart. Dennis
