I pull a 77 with alot of sucess,This year only lost once in 5500# div 2 out of 8 pulls.Look up in the search for keywords like "77 horsepower"oller 77 puller, etc",Then spend the time to read thru them, most of the common and not so common mods have been covered in there. 15.5 tires are a good place to start. Get to know the tractor, and figure out how to balance the tractor, then go after more HP,after you"ve learned to use all you have. Most guys will answer questions and give suggestions if you ask at the pulls. Good Luck

You say it is spinning out and doesn't lift the front. Why would you worry about engine work? Lack of power is NOT your problem.Once you get the weight ballance right and the tires and drawbar right and your driving style right, THEN if you start running out of power to pull a high enough gear to be competitive with the "STOCK" tractors,go to the dead weight pulls or the speed limit pulls or gear specific pulls that will limit the advantage these "STOCKERS" have over you.The more money you spend to try and beat these guys the less fun it will become. One of these days pullin' will be a little more "ORGANIZED" and everybody will stand a chance and it might even be "FUN"! What a concept, heh? Good Luck and have fun.

Sounds like your problems are traction related, which is based on the tires and the weight distribution. Look at what the people who beat you are doing and learn from them. A stock 77 should do OK in 4000 and 4500 classes if you get the traction right.

SHOULD I FIND SOME USED PULLING TIRES AND SOME WEIGHTS BEFORE LOOKING INTO MOTOR WORK?

What weight classes do you pull, I suggest you get as light as possible, less than 5000# and you will be more competitive. Remember a Farmal M and the JD 60s are more like an 88 than a 77.

Most pullers want that front end to come up just a little and throw more weight on the rears for traction.

Couple things to do. 1 more your draw bar in as close to the cros bar as you can. 2 lower the rear tire preassure to 10PSI or maybe just a little less. Also the wider the tire the better and used tires not new tires. I have a 77 and it has 15.5X38s on the stock rims so I know they fit well. Also if your pulling in the 4000lb class you needto weigh 3995lbs if not the full 4000. I pulled last year with my S88 and did ok but I was light by 150 lbs but I did pull the draw bar in so it was close and at the end of the run the front was up about 18 inch. I also lowered the tire preassure so they would bite better as the weight got higher

old, here's an arguement floating around here - everybody and I mean everybody runs radials here and they all air them up tight as in 25 lbs. or more to not lose hitch height. I have seen a few of the older fellas (nothing against that) run their tires at the preassure you prescribed. They do just as well as the others. So on goes the arguement! You don't redo your hitch to get in closer than the stock sway bar? Maybe that's what I did wrong, had all kinds of power but no traction, I'm going to leave the stock hitch on and slide the drawbar in as close as I can get. Let you all know what happens.

Ya you just pull the draw bar part in as close as you can. As far as the tires I'm just running the run of the mill tires on my S88 but I don't do much as far as pulling it. I did it last year just because I was there and wanted to know how good or bad it might do
