Our 660 diesel idles and runs good most of the time. When I put the tractor under a moderate load for 1 to 2 minutes, the engine shuts off. It seems to be worse on an up hill incline. I can also duplicate the problem on level ground by holding the brake pedal while the tractor is in gear. After it shuts off, it can be immediately restarted. All of the fuel filters and strainers have been relaced or cleaned. The fuel tank seems to be clean. Any ideas?

Is the vent on the fuel tank working?
Does it have a hose anywhere in the fuel feed side?

Let me ask yuou this. Early 660 tractors used a Bosch PSB pump after the fall of 1960 for lack of a better date they went to a Roosa Master. Which do you have? Also if a Roosa or a Bosch how many hours are on the engine.Questions? J.

It has a Bosch PSB pump. I don't have the actual hours since the tach was broken and has been replaced. From best estimates, the tractor may have 20,000 hours or more.

Well I think you have a fuel supply problem or it could be a worn supply pump. The first thing I would do is Tee a tee fitting into the supply line at the pump and attach pressure gauge that goes to about 10 PSI. Then get back with us. Questions? J>

I installed the tee just before the Bosch unit.
The pressure just barely makes the gauge move on a 0-35psi gauge. When you remove the gauge, you can get some volume of fuel when you use the primer handle on the pump.
