For its vintage, a 5555 is a very good machine. A 6 row and 20' platform is about the right size for this machine. As with any combine, the job it does depends so much on a good operator who knows how to adjust the machine to perform at its best in the given crop conditions. Of course, the 5555 won't give the record-setting performance of the White rotaries, but it does a good job for a conventional combine. Oliver actually made a big step forward in capacity with the 5555; surely among the biggest combines in the industry at the time of manufacture. Parts are available through AGCO and salvage yards; they may be expensive for this old machine, though. Reliability also depends to a great extent on the operator. Did the previous owner exercise preventative maintenance? Does it look like it has been well cared for (appearance is a good indicator here)? A properly maintained and adjusted 5555 is a good combine.
