Is there an aftermarket manufacturer of good quality loaders that makes one that would fit an Oliver 1550? Or is each model/mfg. of tractors so unique that anything new for this one is long ago gone? I know, there are used ones floating around...and that might be the only way to go if I succeed in a large price reduction and get this tractor. Not sure what, "model," loader to look for in used either. Tips? Dennis (Yeah, I'm full of questions tonight)

With the tractors I have seen for sale in Western WI. wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a unit unless you really like the 1550. Another question, I have not been to a farm sale for years, is the machrincy going that high?

Re: Loader for 1550: pricing... in reply to Carlton Grambo, 08-04-2006 17:26:26
Sure; I think I am better off looking for a tractor with a loader already on it where it will work on the place immediately. For some reason, I really like the Oliver, but that does not solve the practical problems...like it being priced about double what I think it's worth. They know it's high, but have not yet offered to slash the price. I think machinery in general here is selling at pretty steep prices, but this Oliver is way over what is fair (my opinion). If I were rich, I'd find a loader tractor to work and offer a fair price for the Oliver; if they took the offer, I'd keep the Oliver to play with. Or I need to look for an Oliver WITH a loader, and located close enough to Eastern Washington state here, to be able to haul it, but I'm not seeing Olivers around here much. Dennis

Dennis, I would give my recomendation on a 595 Buhler(Allied) loader. I bought mine new for $4000 with 7' bucket with tine and upgraded 3" cylinders. I had it mounted on a 1755, 1855, & will be installing on a 1650 next week. Hope this helps, Stu.

Re: Loader for 1550: Stu, is that a direct bolt o in reply to Stu, 08-03-2006 18:36:25
Thanks for the recommendation. I've never mounted a loader. Is that Allied a direct bolt on? I was guessing one would have to drill for mounting, but I'm not sure. Overall, I guess I just want to know how hard it is to mount myself. I have done some monkey-wrenching, but never a loader. Are hoses, controls, etc., included in loader price?

I'm trying to call the seller now to see if I can wiggle a low price for this 1550. If I can, and if I get a loader on it for around the price yours was, I might come out with a 1550 and loader for around $8,000 - or a bit more. Not a steal I guess, but it might work out. And I'm trying to stay with a diesel machine.

Dennis T; This is a simple project don't be making it hard. the brackets just bolt to the holes already in the frame. As far as hyd no hoses come with it( it is plumbed steel lines to rear of the right side arm) because of to many different applications. Also if you want to operate it and still be able to use the rear hyd outlet seperatly you can do a power beyond setup with another control valve,I have that off the unit I am selling. Once you have the loader installed you can loosen two bolts and simpley back out fro mm the loader. It just leaves the little frame work on the tractor. Go to Buhler mfg and bring up there site for pictures of them. I have the brackets here for that loader that came ioff 1650 for half of new and they still look new. all you need to order then is the loader itself with no brackets, and like I said I also have the control valve to allow you to use it with out tying up the rear remotes. I can quate you a price for the 595 new as stated above,or find dealer in you rarea see if he can do better but either way it has to be shipped, it wil come on a crate. the dealer that has the tractor can he get them

I just called Miller Loader's (Larchwood, Ia)to inquire about a loader for the 1550 I just bought. They sell a G20 for $5250.00. Westendorf is a mid-mount whereas Miller carries some of the weight on the back axle, a feature I like. Miller has an excellent reputation and make a fine product.

You will spend a minumum $5,000 for a brand new loader, maybe more. A lot of guys like the Westendorf, I had a westendorf I didn't care for so much. I have a BushHog mid-mount loader on a tractor now and I really like it. I like the quick-tach bucket and bale spear too. If you spend the money make sure you get that, I can change from bucket to bale spear in less than 30 seconds. And the tractor is just nicer to use the rest of the time you are not using the loader if you can take the bucket off.

Yes new is no problem. Westendorf makes them ,Buhler makes them etc. I also have a 1610 model loader thatwas the thing for those tractors back when they came out. In fact I have a set of Buhler loader mounts that I just took off of 1650 and would go right on the unit you talking about, matches up to the 595 model Buhler loader. Let me know can price you out any of the ones mentioned. Westendorfs are always higher priced. Do you want to take it off alot or leave it mounted that also makes a differnence in price. Do you want self level style etc etc. Just let me know

Thanks. I'll go searching for Westendorf. Not sure what it would cost to install, but this is a start.

One word in loaders: WESTENDORF

According to the Westendorf All Products Catalog the following loaders can be mounted on an Oliver 1555 with the correct mounts:

TA 25
WL 21
TA 26
TA 28
TA 29
WL 42
TA 45
TA 46
TA 48

The WL 42 is probably the most popular and versatile loader for ag applications.
