J.

I havent talk to in a while hows everything down your way? Other than to Hot!!
I have this question to ask; I was thinking all the 880s W/Helical transmissions had the lube package put in them especially the ones with nylon bushings? I still havent found any literature on this type of transmission all Ive been finding is spur gear literature. Was this an option when they came out with the Helical Transmissions? You dont find to many around with Helical in them. Keep cool!
Thanks, Mike

Mike in MI & John:

The first two digits before the dash are for the 880 in the Specification number are: 38=Spur gear transmission & 48=Helical gear trans.

Mike: It is hot across th state line also. I did a little chopping today and it was not bad out in the breeze. I don't remember the exact serial number right at the minute, but only the early 880 tractors like the 1958 models have the spur gear models. The pump package did not come out until maybe early 1963 and don't really quote me on that date. There were two packages. The later ones you needed to split the tractor to install it. I did some of each. What transmission information are you looking for?

Mine must be the earlier model. My pump mounts on the front of the transmission real easy to get to. I mostly been looking for a parts break down for the Helical trans. Few years back I needed to get a pump gear for mine. I drove to Maumee one day and asked if they had one in stock? Jim said this gear was no longer available.

I found check with a friend of mine I new he had an 880 with the Helical Trans. Told he what happen. He looked thru all his 4 # series books and thought that the 1650 gear been the same.
Few day later I drove back to Maumee and told Jim what Don told me so he look it up in his books and said the part #"s aren"t the same. But he did go up stairs and brought the gear for a 1650 and sure enought they matched exactly.
Well we both learn something that day. Nice folks done there. One day I need to drop in on them to say hi. They probably thinking I dropped off the face of the earth or in it been over ten years or more. Here"s the SN.to my 880 48-0030. Not sure of the year? Mike

Mike: That is the spec number. Look on the next line for the serial number. The problem was not attaching the pump but locating and drilling the holes for the lines. They are not bad to split if you have a good socket. I alwasy enjoyed that work. J.
