I have 2 880's. One of them I have a catching type sound in the low range gears 1,2, 5, R1. I had it fixed last year i thought. We put in new plastic bushing on low input shaft. 2 hours later it started doing the same thing. we you are in the above gears. when you get a pull on it feels like the transmission is trying to catch and the tractor tempory seems to stop. any suggestions. Since you have the nylon bushing, your 880 does not have the oil pump. Now do you have a Power Booster? If so does this problem exist if the Power Booster is in direct drive. If it was me I would stick a screwdriver in between the low range gear and stationary splined coupler under he collar and see if you have any endplay. Maybe the snapring does not seat properly in the groove or you have too much endplay in the top shaft which used to be common. Questions? J

John,

Not sure if this could be your problem. Did you check to see if you lubrication pump is pumping oil to the transmisson for lubrication? I found out mine wasn"t getting any oil. Had to replace the pump gear. I replaced a few bearings when I had it down to ck it out. Found the counter shaft having .110 or more end play. I finally put a low pressure oil gauge on mine to make sure it is pumping oil at all times.
Does yours have a power booster on it? I had the pinion shaft nut come loose and this allowed the shift to mover forward and back when going down grades(hills)when coasting.
