I have recently purchased a Super 55 Oliver to do some light mowing and work with on some property we just bought. Well I was mowing with it and hit some taller grass and the mower slowed almost to a stop but the tractor kept the same idle!?! PTO clutch slipping? I have searched and read on how to adjust it, but where can I get a manual on such repairs? How hard is it to put PTO clutches in it? I also believe I need the steering box rebuilt, it get easy, tight, easy, tight. Again, where can I find a manual and is this a hard fix? Thanks in advance. I really like my tactor and do not mind working on it.

If you"re going to do a lot to it, get the real manual. I have the Cd and am probably going to order the manual. It"s too hard to find the pages, I want the book in the shop, etc. It is cheaper, I"ll agree, but for the extra money I"ll save it on a home done repair someday.

is your PTO lever Snaping over it is supost to take 40 lbs pull on the lever to get it to snap over if it dont you will have to get under neeth the tractor there is a plate 4 or 5 in x 6 or 7 or sometheng like that 4 bolts behind that plate there is the pto ajustment you will have to turn the PTO untel you see a pin in the slot push the pin out of the way and turn the deal to the nexed slot or 2 and be sure to let the pin in a slot then see if you get closer to 40lbs been awhile sens I have done this it is clearer if you are looking at it
stering gear is ajust abel to but I dont remember witch way to turn it so untel you get a manual see if you can find a fill plug and check oil 80/90 is what is supost to be in there it may have goten dried out and sticky and or leeked out jack up the front and spin wheel back and forth end to end and see if the new oil helps

I bought a I&T repair manual from a local tractor supply store. It is OK, but lacks detail in some proceedures. I also bought the "real" Oliver manual on CD ROM....only $23.00 compared to around $140 for a reprint. Much more detailed information, testing, and repair info. Check out the CD ROM at espcor.com. I saw them on EBAY first, then just called him up and ordered it.

Kevin

Skywalker, How do you like the CD? I have had one for years, but it won't work on a Mac, which I have. I heard that it wasn't chaptered so you have to search a lot for the right pages.

Hi, the one I have says OLMASTERSM_ver3.0a.
It is an Adobe document with 1294 pages. On the left it is bookmarked into 12 Sections.....Engine, Fuel System, Ignition, Cooling System..... ..and so on. You click on the bookmark and it jumps you right to the Index page for that section.
It is still a little harder than a book since you can only see about half a page at one time on the computer screen, so you can't scan through the information as quickly. Also, since the book covers all the models, it takes longer to find the 550 information. The pictures and print are very nice quality.
When you find the pages you want, just print them out and use 'em in the garage.
