I'm helping a freind on his 1941 Oliver 70 row crop. He ran it in a 4th of July Parade a long 2 hour event. It quit on him. I brought it home and it starts OK now? I think it may be a bad condensor when hot. But I had to add 1 gallon of antifreeze. Now after it is warm antifreeze keeps coming out of the overflow pipe and is very foamy. I connected a hose to the overflow pipe and put in a bucket of water and get quite a few bubbles out of the hose at high idle. It appears to have a blown head gasket or broken head. Has any one had this before, looking for advice. Thanks in advance Tim in NE

Well I took the head off as you guys advised. I have a cracked block, cracked between 4&5&6. The head gasket looks OK the head looks OK. Where does the head crack???? Now I need a used block or engine. My s/n is 238457 the casting number on the block is D600A330. Need help finding parts. Thanks in advance. Tim Rees Omaha NE 402-679-5819

Tim, I found the cracks between the sleeves on the 70 blocks to be pretty common. A good head gasket usually seals those areas just fine. I'd rule out everything else before replacing the block. Good luck with it!

Tim,

It sure sounds like a gasket, head or liner problem.

If you want to know for sure that you are getting combustion pressure in the radiator, NAPA offers a Block Tester (combustion leak tester) in their Balkamp line that will show if combustion gasses are present. It is NAPA/Balkamp part #700-1006

Mine cost about $40, but that was years ago. It really helps narrow things down, especially when the leak is small. Your problem appears to be more obvious, but it will still confirm your suspicions.

Good luck,
Scott

My 60 did that, turned out to be a cracked sleeve.
