Was wondering what everyone could tell me about the Oliver 2655. Didn"t know what transmission and rear ends they used. Same as my 2255? I thought it was a 585 MM engine. What"s the HP on this engine? Any other pros or cons? If I had one, it would be used on only 100 acres or less. I"m guessing parts, etc. are harder to come by. Or, what"s the best White 4WD to buy? Thanks for your help.

Get an old 4-180 and cherry it out and you will be a happy camper. Even paint it green and white and call it an oliver if you want too. Leave the 2655 to the museum or the hardcore oliver collector. Parts for the 4-180 are fairly easy to come by, engines are everywhere (3208) in dumptrucks and all kinds of rigs all over the country if you need one. 4-180 is a perfect rig for 100 acres because it will last your lifetime if you keep it up. We put spaced out radial duals (armstrongs) on a 4-180 and it was a pulling beast. Much better than the factory goodyears. I kind of like the big singles on 4wd tractors. Have had good luck with them. Anyway good luck, with a 4wd tractor purchase you usually need some luck!

Its all moline painted green. Its tall and rides rough. It has only one useable field gear and no power shift. To top it all off the engine is a nightmare to get started and it drops broken valves into the pistons.Parts are expencive and hard to get. The only good thing is they pull great.

I do not have an OLIVER 2655, but I have two 2155s and a WHITE 2-150 all with that 585ci MM motor in them. That 585ci motor is the best diesel MM made. Because the pre-combustion chambers are in the pistons, direct injection system. All the rest of the diesels MM made were indirect injection system, the pre-combustion chamber is in the head and you can not get much more than stock horse power. Larry.

For the record, I don"t own a single piece of MM equipment. But I have a neighbor down the road who has probably a hundred different pieces of MM equipment, mostly tractors. He would disagree with you about the reliability of the Oliver 2655/MM 585 engine BIG TIME and has fixed a few dozen of those engines as a reference. His motto is "if you want an Oliver 2655 as a parade tractor, fine. Just don"t do any farming with it".
(His saying, not mine).
I am glad that you"ve had good luck with your tractor.

I do have a 2655 and 3 destroyed pistons in the barn. Its never had a turbo or been turned up.One big part of the starting problems is the closed center hydrolic system. There is no deactivator valve so it starts pumping when you try to crank the engine, when the preasure rises the engine allmost locks up.I know the 2-150 has the deactivator and the improved valves so they don't drop into the pistons.
