Look under articles to the left side, there is one "upgrading the electrical system of a 55 Oliver" The Genises[sp] system is mail order with all parts needed, the diode is used if a switched power is not used, the bracket should be modified.

Mine is still on back-order, so I may never see it at this rate. If it doesn"t show by the end of August I may have to try another route.

For now I got the 1600 running pretty good again after replacing everything under and including the cap, but those expenses add up, espescially if they only last 50 hours like the last set did.

Don, do you have a resistor in place before the coil? I used to go through points each year on our old Case 320 backhoe until I remembered having such an item on our Ford industrial. Since putting it in, I have not touched the points or any other distributor parts in 3 years. It consists of a ceramic block about 2.5 or 3 inches long and I think it takes the system from 12 volts down to 6.

No, but the coil should have an internal resistor in it. I got it from AGCO when I was rebuilding it. It doesn"t have any problems untill the slightest touch of moisture while it"s running. Then it runs rough again, and it"s been like this it"s whole life since brand spanking new 43 years ago.

I"m not Don, but you can see the Pertronix line on their web page. Do a google for "pertronix" and it will show. To get the kit number you need, order it from a good mom-and-pop type of auto parts store, one that still has catalogs that they look at. (Sorry Autozone) Or, find the Pertronix telephone number on their web page, call them up and they will tell you what number to order. (Have your distributor numbers handy if possible) I"ve used a couple of their kits on all sorts of applications and I think they have a good product.
BTW, I"m sorry to knock Autozone, but the last time I was there, if it wasn"t in their computer, they were clueless. Try getting an oil filter for an Oliver tractor there, you"ll soon find out what I"m talking about.

Thanks Kruse,I'll check it out.
I know what you mean about Auto Zone. The kids in the front of the store are pretty bad.I have a commercial acct. w/ Auto Zone,So when I call,I get a GOOD parts person in the back of the store.
I'm all for "Mom & Pop" stores, but alot of times,A.Z beats the pants off these guys.
Try asking for the commercial dept next time.
Thanks again!! ~brad
