Add turbo to White 2-70 (aka1655)?

My Dad recently purchased a White 2-70 that is in great shape. However it recently developed a leak of water into the oil. At this point (head is now off), I am suspecting sleeves seals. Any thoughts on that?

In addition, while we were tearing it down he asked me about putting a turbo on the tractor and turning up the fuel "slightly". He then proceeds to ask me how I think it would do in a 8500 or 9000lb "Farm Stock" class. What are your guy's and gal's opinions about:

1. Adding a turbo to this tractor (since it is being torn down for a rebuild)

2. How would this tractor do in a "Farm Stock" class? The tractor is equipped with a 633 Roosamaster, so it won't pump a lot of fuel the way it sets!

I should also tell you that I have added many turbos to tractors over the years and have all of the parts to make a nice clean installation...

If you add a turbo you will not be in " FARM STOCK CLASS" Anymore. Tried to pull a 1206 with out the pto unit in it and the officials said no way. Around here it must be factory to be farm stock.

I have a late 1650 with a turbo. Not enough room to put a 1955 turbo under the smaller hood with out butchering it up.Used some M&W turbo parts off of a IH 656,706 kit hoged out the devider in the stock ex.manifold for single exit into turbo.

Wouldn't worry at all about adding a turbo to it since you're getting into the motor anyway. You'll surely check the bottom end and replace the rod bolts, correct? You could, depending how serious you want to get, turn the 283 engine you have now into a bonafide 310 by swapping out the crankshaft and pistons to those used in the 310. The crank and pistons are the only real differences internally between a 310 and a 283. The sleeve seals are the most likely culprit, but if the engine has some hours on it, it is also likely that the sleeves are shot (electrolysis) and you'll have to replace them anyway. You could put a 1955 pump on there to gain some fuel delivery once you add the turbo also. These can be strong engines, and you're bound to do quite well in pulling, but I'd try to stay up in the 8500/9500 pound classes; 7500 might be too light for you to get your power to the ground.

It will work fine as long as you let it cool down before turning it off, keep good oil in it and while it's torn down make sure you get updated connecting rod bolts. I ran an 1800A with one on it for a few years and never had a problem. Went from a 4 plow tractor to a 5 plow easily. I would probably go down to a 7500 or 7000 pound class if I pulled it but it depends on the rules at the pull. It would more than likely be outclassed in a heavier division.

Hey thanks for all of the replies guys. It looks as though the tractor will need injectors too, as 3 of the 6 cylinders had galling on the piston skirts. I am thinking that this galling is due to poor injector pattern washing down the side of the engine. I should also tell you that ALL of the upper rod bearing halves were worn through to the copper BUT this engine carried great oil pressure...?!?1?!!!!
