Will the factory hydraulic system operate a front-end loader or should I install a PTO driven pump?

I just did some work on a 770 with a loader that runs off the on board hyds system. Seems to work ok but it is a little slow. I don't like how it was set up but its her tractor so I have to leave it as is for her. Its set up so one lever is always engaged and then hooks to a valve body which works the loader and 3 point. So yes it will

This loader is plumbed identical to yours and only has one problem. It will not lift the load when in the stockpile. Back up slightly and it will lift fine. I believe it is from the small lift cylinders which are 2.5" bore. Thanks for all replies.

Hi guys, I really enjoy the info you all share! I was wondering if anyone can tell me if it is possible to attach an aux set of control valves to run a loader etc. to the existing hydraulic control on an Oliver 770. The tractor has only one valve on it now. Could I also add a second oem control to the existing control tower? I hope I'm sending this to the right place. Thanks for your help,

Dan

Sounds to me like you have cylinders intended for a high pressure hydraulic system. I also sent you an e-mail Let me know if you receive it. J.

Could be the small cylinders or a weak pump, or it could also be that the cylinders need to be rebuilt. Any of the 3 will cause your problems.

If you do add a pump go with a crankshaft driven pump and a seperate valve that has float position. PTO pumps need to have a gear box to increase the speed of the pump. A hydraulic pump is very ineffecient at speeds below 1000 to 1200 RPM especially a good gear pump. Some PTO/ pump combinations are made with a gear type drive that increases pump speed. Also once you have some facts, there are formulas for calculating pump out put to get a desired cycle time. One comment on the quick lowering. Get yourself some kind of flow control to prevent that. That prevents shock loads and also helps to keep the cylinders from caviatiing. Questions?

You will need a reservoir and it needs to be large enough to handle the flow when you lower the loader quickly. Use the large fitting on the left of the existing unit. We have ours plumbed also on the top where you add the oil. The fill cap an breather/dipstick is installed on the top of the add on reservoir. Plumbing a power beyond setup works well. The service manual explains how to install that on your system.
Goog advice from the first two posters.

Questions?

If the hyd system is in good condition it will
indeed handle a loader. Be sure to have correct
loader cyls for tractor style. Most loader Mfg.
sell Hi press low volume cyls, and low press,hi
volume cyls which that would take. Just be sure
it is not a real small bore cyl. Also a 770 has
a small reservoir for hyd oil. A double action
cyl is a better choice. If it a single action you
may need to add a reservoir.
