spindle broke off at outside bearing journal for the second time within a year!

Is there an upgrade path? seems like 3/4" shaft is too small.

This is 1967 model with power steering. I can probably get parts but hate to throw good money after bad.

How is it being used? I wouldn't expect this to be happening unless the tractor is being used with a loader, and the front wheel dish turned out. This puts extreme loads on the outer bearing and the outer end of the spindle (as well as all other axle and steering components). If this is the case, the solution should be to use tires and rims that will carry the weight AND fit properly with the dish turned in.

Just curious, did you repair the spindal after the first break or replace it? I think it is a weak point. Yours is not the first I heard break. If you need a replacement, you might try Kent Gordon. He parts out a lot of Super 55s and 550s.
This is the last email I had for him.

The industrial part sounds like the ticket.
Is it a direct replacement or do I need a hub and steering arm to match?

Yes has a loader.
After I bought it 8 years ago I bent the shaft with a bucketful of sand. I should have repaired this one...
Since then I'm pretty careful not to over load it.
I removed the concrete 3-pt weight to this end.

Next 2 spindles were new aftermarket parts I think. Wheels are dished in. Last 2 replacememt spindles give more clearance (stick out farther). The original one had the tire rubbing but it may have had bent shaft when I got it. The end of the steering arm had the bolt worn off from tire rubbing for years.

Since this first replacememt the steering geometry seems wrong. When I turn R the L wheel lays over and wants to skid instead of roll. I suspect I'm not getting the right part or I screwed up the front end alignment (negative camber) somehow.

Looks like the industrial ( white 2-44 ) has bigger shaft w/1.25" cone bearing. Can anybody tell me if this part has is a keyed shaft? At this point I'd be willing to put on a different hub. I hate fixing this in the dead of winter out in the barnyard.

I have replaced the power steering pump with one out of a 96 hyundai elantra. Had to fabricate a bracket and rework the lines. Not quite as much assist as the original cessna pump, but good enough.
