My radiator cap seal looks dry roasted. Water leaks out from the radiator overflow soon after starting and continues to worsen as the engine heats up. I have no reason to believe the system is overheating. Just a bad radiator cap.

Let me know if anyone knows where I can get a replacement. NOTE: I've been to a few auto parts places. I found several that fit, but the seals are all too small and all allow even more water to escape from the overflow.

Also, while I have your attention. I noticed that water just began leaking out of the weephole on my water pump. I replaced the main gasket from the pump to the engine block but the leak is still there. It seems as if the leak is a little slower, but maybe not, I don't know. I noticed that there was another seal on the water pump. I didn't disassemble the pump any further to check that seal. Could that be my problem or could it be something else on the water pump itself. Could there be a leak around the bearings of the water pump? What do you think?

Thanks,

David Hawkins

Thanks for the thoughts. I included the problem with the water pump just to get some feedback. The radiator cap problem has existed for some time. Just recently, the water pump began giving me problems.

How does one rebuild a water pump. I can get a new one for around $80. Maybe I should just get another.

Should I still replace the other gasket on the water pump or is the water coming from the weephole because of another problem?

If you have any water comeing out that weephole then the seals and or bearings in your water pump is going bad. You either need to replace your water pump or rebuild it. That could even be part of if not all of your problem.

And when you get a new radiator cap on and the system is again pressurized, it will leak out the weep hole even faster.
