I have an Oliver 22 trail sickle bar mower and the PTO shaft is pretty tired and needs to be replaced or repaired. I have the outer metal shield, but there is no bearings for it to ride on the shaft itself. The shaft yokes have round grooves on each end that I assume are for this. I have never seen a good one, nor can I find any replacements in the farm catalogs. Also, my shafts are square (1" I think). I noticed in the catalogs they show shafts that are not square, like 1"W x 1-1/4"H. Did PTO driveshafts change at some point? Is that whats available now? The implement end is 15/16 square with a thru pin.

There used to be a kit for the two nylon inserts you need. When I worked for Dana we also had PTO parts to make drive shafts, I think I have some of that stuff yet but, however no nylon inserts. Get me some dimensions.

John,
The inside of the bearing groove on the yoke is 1.725", and the outside of the machined surface is 1.875, so about .150" deep groove. The inside diameter of the shield is 1.3". What is odd is that the ends of the shields where the bearings would ride about, have 5/16" holes drilled all around the circumference of the shaft. Almost like the nylon bearing would have round stubs that fit into these holes? I dont know as there is nothing left of a bearing.

My cross has a bearing dia. of .875" and is 2-29/32 wide. The outer tube is 1-1/4" square tubing.
