I have been searching for a decent Oliver 60 and think I have located one nearby and the price sounds reasonable. But, during my search I have come to the conclusion that it isn't just tractors of the 'other green paint' that the owners seem to think are worth more than they really are! I don't know if they really dont want to sell them when they advertise, or hope some sucker will come along.

$2000 RC 60's in non running, rusty condition and most often stuck engines is ridiculous. Super 55's that look as if they have been in continuous use for the last 50 years and priced at $4000-$5000 is even worse. $9000 440's? HAR!

The 1940 RC 60 I will look at is running and recently used to rake hay, was offered to me for $1750. That is reasonable, not a steal, but reasonable. Perhaps it isn't a gold plated model!

Check out a 63 split Corvette. Hemi Cuda, any year. How about 11,400 for a 440 Ollie. If you have a 60 for 1750 running take it.

One other possible reason is the price of scrap and parts . The responsible owners might not want their tractors crushed or parted out . Scrappers don't care that there will never be another one made . They just want to get their dollar out of it . Look at ebay sometime and most of the parts at least on the IH line are from qoute " good running tractor " unquote . It's sad they take apart a perfectly good tractor just so THEY can make a couple extra dollars from it .

Personally, I'm glad t see it. Let's the guys that "bleed green" know they had some serious competition.

I believe that the Oliver line of tractors were always underated (especially here in the west) and they deserve all the praise they get now.

Even though I "bleed red" I still have dad's 1947 88 that I am going to get restored someday. I use the tractor quite often around the place here and it will still pull a 3-bottom plow and never break a sweat.

One of the last bastions of true supply and demand. If those examples really are overpriced, and if the sellers really want to sell, the prices will come down. But as Tramway Guy said, they're not making any more of them.

Possibly the reason for their increased value is the fact that they are not making more of them. Kind of like farmland...
