I have a friend who needs a "flywheel" for this sickle mower. The part number cast into the wheel is 508222E. It"s about 8 inches in diameter and 2 inches thick, and it"s heavily counterweighted. The hub is right at 2 3/4 inches long. I"m told that this "wheel" is connected directly to the sickle bar & causes it to go "back & forth". Apparently this mower was made sometime in the 50"s?? Anyway, he really needs this part, so if you know where he can get one - well, let"s just say he would really appreciate it. Thanks so much for your help...

Fred

Hi , I think the part # is 506 222 E ( crankwheel assembly ) The 508 222 E number isn't in my book . Is he sure that that part is bad ? It's located on the shaft with a woodruf key that may have sheared . Otherwise adjust the bearing preload from the front side while tapping the shaft in both directions till all play is removed and no more . New bearings are available fron napa . If that doesn't help or you have already removed the crank wheel and know for certain that it's the problem try an Agco white dealer , you may not get very far with an Agco-allis dealer unless they like old olivers . It took my Agco dealer two weeks to track down the last NOS pitman bearing housing that was on their network of dealers . A dealer was doing a cleaning of their part's bins and just happened to find it stuck way back in a corner of a bin . You might get lucky like I did . Now that sickle cut's as quiet as a mouse at 6 miles an hour . If you don't find the part I'd be happy to call my dealer or you can . They are Schwartzrock implement , Charles city , IA 641-228-5714 ask for wesley , he's VERY helpful and will find it if it to be found and you give him enough time and bug him a little about it . Good luck ...Randy

Hey Randy!! Thanks for your reply. To answer your questions, yes - I'm sure the part is bad. What's happened is that part of the "hub" has busted off and now this part vibrates pretty bad (or at least that's the story I'm getting)... I've seen your posts around this site & I know you have one of these mowers & know something about them. I know nothing. I'm just a semi-retired machinist/engineer who's now living on a farm & trying to help out the son of one of my more senior friends. He came to me originally asking me to "fix" the part, but as you know the part is cast in such a way that there's little material left to "play with". That's why I'm looking for another part. I'm down here in middle Tennessee & have no way to really "stay after" a parts guy to get him to get me a part. If you know the guy you mentioned & would help me with that - well, let's just say that I'd be appreciative. I'll be sure to check out the other stuff you mentioned - and if you can think of anything else please let me know. THANKS !!

Hi Fred , I called about that part this morning and as I expected it wasn't available anymore . But they can only check for obsolete parts Mon. - Fri. so I'll call them on Monday . Check back here after Mon. night since I don't have an e-mail account set up for this computer . There aren't very many of those 415's around for sale anymore even as parts machines . It might be better to try and talk him into stepping up to a newer pitmanless machine unless he's restoring it for show . It's a good machine but it's severely limited in it's usage . And even with a 7 foot bar it's to light . It needs fifty pounds or more of weight on the off side just to keep that wheel on the ground . I'll post back when I come up with something . Take care ...Randy

Randy... Thanks so much for your interest & help. YES!! I'll try to remember to check back on Monday (things get kinda hectic around here sometimes)... I've "met" a couple of other nice folks here "on the web" in this quest & they all say they will be looking also. But as you've already said, these machines are obsolete and the parts appear to be also - so it certainly won't hurt to have more than one looking at the same time. Anyway, I certainly appreciate your efforts and I hope that you continue. I would appreciate that. As a last resort I might try to "fab one up" out of steel. It certainly would - it seems to me - be more durable than cast iron. That stuff is just too brittle. But please do keep looking. Right now I need all the help I can get. Until later...
