I have the chance to buy a very nice 1950fwa with a Detroit engine in it.This would be my first Oliver.Do these tractors have any known faults?I will have to farm with this beast,so any information would be greatly appreciated.Thanks

Yes you will need earplugs,unless you like your head bobbing while you sleep in tune to the little detroit.Or if you like to hear a baby cry you wont have any problems with the noise.Good thing is the 453 is cheap to rebuild if you need to some day.As long as you keep oil in the rearend you will not have any problems oliver was noted for building good strong rearends.

Luke, I'm not much of an Oliver person but have had A lot of experience with Detriot engines. First of all get A good supply of ear plugs! Parts for the 4-53 are still easy enough to get but as with all old tractors can get expenseve. I have heard the 1950 had ring gear and pinion problems but you can get the skinny on that from the Oliver boys. Good Luck....
