Hydraulic pump rebuilding?

I'm rebuilding an old hydraulic pump for an off color tractor and I see good info on this Oliver page about hydraulics. On this pump the valve body is intergral to the pump so replacing the pump is not an option. This pump uses needle bearings which decided to leave. This caused the gears to dig into the body taking about 1/16 out of the end plate. First can I replace the needle bearings with bushings I can make myself? How about using synthetic compounds to build up the end plates and machine them down? This is on an old tractor that will see limited work. How about some ideas! Thanks, PK.

Just for fun, how about a make and model of the pump if possiable and if not how about a model etc. for the tractor. No doubt the idler shaft bearings left go first as there is 20-25% more load on them, How does your center plate look?

Ok as long as you guys can stand the color! It's a Case 500 Diesel, 1954 model year. The center plate is worn in the boar about 1/16" on the suction side. Three of the bearings gave up only the drive end bearing stayed togeather. Each end plate suffered some damage where the gears wore into them again about 1/16". I had to machine a tool to get the bearings out, real pain. Thanks for the replys, PK.

Well you just proved my point. I have tried to help a couple of guys with 400 & 500 diesels with there Bosch PSB problems also. How can I contact you? You did not answer my question on who made the pump. No doubt it has a flow divider to run the power steering.

This old 500 has arm strong stearing. The pump is a Case unit, all the parts have Case eagles on them.

I would replace the needle bearings, not try to fit bushings, although it is possible it could be done.
As far as the end plates go, you might be able to just take them to a machine shop and have them ground flat on a surface grinder. It will reduce the thickness, so it might weaken it so it breaks...depends on how much is there to start with.
