Ive noticed a lot of references to Oliver 1800 Series A, B, C, and so on. I would guess that these may be minor updates within the model run of the 1800. Can someone tell me what changes occurred with each of these updates? What are the dates or serial numbers at which point these Series changes were made?

Thank you both for very helpful replies. I have a lot to learn about Olivers. Yea, a lot of yellow wheels around here (and one old Ford!).

Im looking at an 1800 that is for sale near here. Not having seen it since I received your information, it must be a Series A or B.

Id still like to find out what Id be up against in changing out the PTO implement shaft. About an inch and a half is gone!! Otherwise it seems to be a good piece.

Thanks again for the help.

Other physical differences, Series A and Early B have the hydraulic filter on the left hand side of the rock shaft housing. Power steering equipped tractors have the priority/bypass valve on the front side above the drive gear cover for the hydraulic pump. The later B and the C series switches the locations, placing the filter straight out the front on the rock shaft housing and the valve on the left side. There was also improvements made to the servo valve and internal bypass valves.

As a note, the rock shaft housings should interchange, although it would require use of the lines from a series C to adapt to the earlier models if power steering equipped.

Putt Putt: You must be the wrong color wheel guy!

Series "A" are from S/N 90 525 to 124 395. Gas & LP are 265 Cu In and Diesel is 283 Cu In. Rated RPM is 2000. Visual identification: Has a decal on the hood sides that had a checkerboard design, non tiltable steering column with the throttle on the steering column.

Series "B" are from S/N 124 397 to 134 683. Gas and LP are 283 Cu In and Diesel is 310 Cu In. the rated RPM is 2200. Visual identification: Has the metal placard attached to the hood sides, non tiltable steering column with the throttle on the steering column.

Series "C" are from S/N 136 501 to 149 818. Same displacement and rated RPM as series "B". The transmission now has a pressure lubrication system. Visual identification: Has the metal placard on the hood sides and a tiltable steering column (W/Power steering). Throttle is located on the side of the dash.

This is a small overview, there are many small changes in the tractors.
