Hi Don , How do those agco balls and the speeco balls compare hardness wise ? The agco ball that tested at R-14 - was it an aluminum ball ? :-) That's beyond mush - that's approaching melted butter ! I don't need any right now but they sure look good ! ...Randy

I never bought any Speeco balls so I'm not sure how hard they are. I've heard several people complain about them though so I would think so I actually tested one of mine before hardening, it was harder than the mush one!! I think it was about a 20. I painted the rest today and they're ready to get left on plows nation wide to rust...

I hope you get going making these I can use a set but not right now and want to keep the $$ in the US economy--- last set we got was from china.. I almost tossed them away but had to have them.. :(

Hang in --- do some figuring and maybe talk to some agco dealers (not agco themselves--they will try and shut you down) :)

I'll have to ask the guys at my favorite dealer if we could strike something up, They really aren't too bad to make as long as you have the right tooling(could have used a better indexable carbide drill vs. a HSS one) The current program takes about 5-7 minutes to run, wasn't watching the clock very close. I should be able to get it down to 1/2 that if not quicker after I re-jigger the program some. As far as the stock goes, it is headed for the scrap bin unless I take it out because it was donated to the school from a business, and the school has no use for it. I basically have access to 4-5 20' bars of stock and I plan to give them a little bit considering they were gonna get money for the scrap.

The profits are going to pay some of my tuition ($720 due in about 2 weeks!!!) so It's not exactly going straight to my pocket either. I was wondering about AGCO, but I figure if they get upset I can change the dimensions just enough to make them "non" Oliver/White 3 pt. balls.

Looks like I'll have to make some more!!! I wasn't expecting nearly this much demand, but I guess we all need a few good balls....

I'm guessing the one on the right looks familiar to those who have bought them from AGCO lately, seems they forgot to harden them.... The one on the left I think is a top link ball ground down to fit in a cat 1 implement. I got it out of a tractor in the junk yard, never thought about it til today. It's got the same raduis as the lower balls. Sound right?

$15/ pair, $2 shipping. 2 or more and I'll ship'em for free. If ANYONE wants them PLEASE shoot me an email, that's the easiest way to keep track and it looks like they're gonna go quick.

To answer everyone's questions, I made these myself at school on a Mazak CNC lathe out of 4140 (high carbon) steel, and then heat treated them and oil quenched them to approximately 40-50 Rockwell "C". I tested a good original and it was a 47, the new one we bought a few years ago which is now mush was only about a 15.

I only have Cat 2 lower balls at this moment, but in the future I might be able to aquire a top link ball and make some, and possibly some Cat. 1 & 3 balls.

I only have 15 pair right now, 2 I have a claim to and 1 pair is sold already, just waiting for a check. If anyone wants a pair, shoot me an email and I'll be glad to send out a pair with your names on them. I'm rather curious to try them out myself on the plow, but that is atleast 3 weeks off yet.

Ok Don, not to be tongue in cheek, but just about every Oliver owner who is using his equipment probably could use another set of 3pt balls. Have you cornered the market? Seems that the ones on my equipment are a little bit rustier than yours. OK, I can see this is going nowhere - fast! How much and yes I could use an extra set including the ones that go in the upper link, cat II and cat III. By the way, are you swimming in the fields yet your way. We have snow on the ground here in St Pt.

Our feilds aren't too bad, a litle standing water but it'll be gone almost as soon as the rain stops. We have all of our corn in for now, until we can get 2 poor feilds of hay off and turned under.

In the mean time I'm working on aquiring a Hesston 1014+2 hydra-swing (14 ft.) to replace our old New Idea 290(9 ft.) in the hay feilds. I'm saving it from the torch for $600, and I get to test run it some before any cash is traded. As long as the pump and a few other things check out, it's coming home.

I posted answers to the 3 pt. ball questions up above for everyone.

Have a god one!!
