restoring a oliver super 55

I have a 1955 super 55 and want to restore it. I have the engine almost out and will have it on the stand soon. I am doing this project from my little wooden shed so I can only cover the tractor up with a tarp every night. I was wondering if anyone had any sugestions on sandblasting all of the parts to be painting back to the original color and look, or if anyone had any comments for me on any other part of the tractor that could help me. thanks dave

You are in the same situation as myself. I have to rely on sunny weather to do my restoration, AND I LIVE IN VANCOUVER BC.....

I just make sure that I sandblast, prep and paint when I know that the weather is going to be good. When I was painting the frame, I had a tarp under the tractor to keep it from getting ground moisture rising, and put a tarp ontop at night too.

This is my first restoration, so I am very "green" at this. I just bought the AGCO Meadow Green, and did not put a hardener in. I was told not to guess on the hardener and could not find anyone who was sure about what hardener to use. And I used an epoxy primer that went on really well. I have not done the tin work just the rims, hubs, frame, etc.

Good luck. I am sure that you can get some good advice here from more knowledgable people.

thanks, this is also my first restoration project. I have not started to sandblast just yet, what grade of sand do you use and do you use sand or glass beads.thanks dave

I don't know where you could get brand new tin but there is a feller that parts these out all the time and he might be able to help you out. I've dealt with him before and had good luck. His # is 903-729-8349.

I started with a "green" blasting medium. Was suppose to be cleaner to use, but took forever to blast off the old paint. When I go to the tool supplier, I just look at the chart that they have, or ask the sales person. They will tell you which one to use.

I haven't taken the paint off of the tin work yet, but I wouldn't sand blast it. I have read it can warp the metal.
