Is the oil presure bypass spring and plunger assembly a one way valve? What exactly does this bypass assembly do? And what would the symptoms be if it were bad? I don't see it mentioned in any of the troublshooting sections of the manual.

It is right under the hyd lift cylinder. I took my air compressor hose and blew air into the external oil port that goes to the bypass assembly. Air blew through. Then I blew air backwards through the assembly. The air went through this way too. Pulled out the retainer, spring, and plunger, and it looks pretty good. The plunger seat does have a little pitting.

I also got a chance to put my cylinder and internal control valve into a press and test it. ALL OK

First of all why did you take it out? It regulates the engine oil pressure. Most of those give very little pressure. Your tractor should have the later spring in it. Questions?
