I have narrowed my choices to these tractors. Any Oliver fans care to tell me reasons to purchase an Oliver over the Fergusons?

If memory serves the brakes are different. The Oliver has disc and I think the Masey has drum. I would look at both but would buy the Oliver.

I have been the owner of a 1957 Oliver Super 55 for about 1 year. The tractor I purchased was well abused over its years. The only advise I can offer to to look at the availability and cost of spare parts. Some parts for my Oliver seem more expensive and harder to locate than for the MF's. However, I sure do like that Oliver green!

These are both nice tractors. One very big difference is the power, the size of the engine. The Oliver engine is 144cid, can be easily enlarged to 166cid.

The engine in the TO35 (Continental) stated life as 120cid (Z120) was enlarged to 135cid (Z135) for the model you are considering. Can be enlarged to 145cid.

The Oliver engine is stronger. Also, the Oliver trans is beefier, in fact everything about the Oliver is one level stronger.

Like Danny mentioned, check out the PTO specs.

Both tractors have about the same hitchs, the Ferguson system was used by all at this time.

The only advantage (I can find) of the MF-35/F-TO35/MH50 (all about the same) is the fact that they are cheaper, because of more availability and lighter construction.

I have also been looking at these tractors as well as some others. I'm not very knowledgeable about the Fergusons, and I don't know if they have live PTO, but I know the Oliver's do. Also, I don't think the Fergusons have Hi-Lo range transmissions and I know the Oliver's do. I know from experience driving other people's tractors that low gears come in very handy, especially when backing up (I was seriously looking into buying an Allis Chalmers D10/12 until I drove one in reverse!) I haven't bought anything yet, but for these reasons I'm leaning toward an Oliver. Hope this helps.

OVER THE YEARS I HAVE OPRATED MANY TRACTORS MF,FORD,CASE,FARMALL, AND,KABOTA. COMPARED TO FORDS 2000,AND 2000 SUPER DEXTER, THE MASSSEY
FURGESON 135,THE TWO MOST COMPATIBLE WITH THE 550
AND THE SUPER 55. THE OLIVER IS MORE POWERFUL WITH MUCH BETTER OPERATING SYSTEMS.GO WITH THE OLIVER .

I HAVE OWNED a SUPER 55 OLIVER FOR OVER 10 YEARS. IT IS THE BEST STARTING TRACTOR I HAVE EVER OWNED. IT WILL START AT 10 BELOW.
