I am working on a Cockshutt 20. The gear in the PTO that slides to engage has some teeth missing. I have been told that an Avery or Oliver 44 will interchange. I have found a couple of these gears, but (always that but) they have 12 teeth and mine (counting the missing ones) has 15. One person said he was sure his came off of a Cockshutt 20. Are there more than one gear?? Bigger question, does any one have one???? I am in need of one to complete the tractor.. I would consider complete PTO unit. Thanks Dave

Thanks for your help. I have found out the a three speed and four speed would (sould) be different. I can find some help from Dana maybe. I quess it would make sense that if they made this unit for several tractors that they would make them to meet the manufactures specs, and changing the number of teeth on this gear would make that change.
Thanks for your help, Dave

Dana is going to laugh at you. Dana did not build the gear. Dana purchased Clark for the axles not transmissions. The truck transmissions were sold off before Dana. This was done by the owner before Dana.

Most company buy-outs puts an end to a lot of parts. I did find out today the the gear I need is a 15 tooth from looking at another PTO unit. Good news is I was able to buy the unit, so I will have the parts I need to complete the tractor. Thanks to all for inout and help

Got your e-mail Thanks for the reply. Also remember if they made that part, sales would be so slow you would not buy it because of the price. That is why slow moving items are made off shore. Remember that transmission was used by 20 plus O E's but not for the last 30 years and probably 2/3 of those OE companies had no use for a Belt pUlley or PTO. Also remember the old saying 20% of the parts make you 80% of the money. My boy who does work for Dana with this stuff went to A cat seminar and the topic was what does it cost a company to add one part to the parts line. There is more to it than what the average guy thinks. Glad you found one. Going to Wallpa next month as it know around here for the national show? J.

Yes we are going to Wapakoneta, just not sure if we are going to spend fuel money to take tractors or just drive our car up. Looks like it will take over 100 gal fuel for us to make that pull with tractors. On the other hand it is the Cockshutt show for the ICCI club and I would like to take a couple up. The price of fuel is taking a bite in a lot of things. Fuel for planting will take a toll on this years crop outlook for us. Gone to all no-till to cut fuel usage, but no-till works for us in our area.
Thanks for all your help,,Dave

This may not help but it is worth a try. Find a pars dealer that handles DANA gears and see if they can match one up. If DANA bought Clark there is a small chance that they still build the gear even if it is for a different application. If that doesn't work and you run out of options have it built. It will be expensive but if you have to have it....

There is a great gear building company about 10 miles from here that I am sure can do the job, They build gears for 1927 Cadillac one time I know. They are B&R Gear Company, Sharon, Tn 731-456-2636 Link

Tuesday is election day here in Ohio. So I am going to give you a political correct answer. The PTO/Belt pulley was made by Clark same as the transmission. The transmission was made for over 20 different manufactures. Since they did not all use the same engine nor run the engine at the same speed if the OE manufactured wanted the PTO to run at ASAE stand speed you need more than one gear set. Now about 10 years ago when I was empoyed by Dana and they had just purchased Clark I asked Clark about some information. They sent me some. Unfortunately I had a flooded basement and that took care of probably 95% of that information. Now those old timers from Clark are all gone and so is the information I think. Did not help you much did I, but now you should know more on the rest of the story. More questions Dave? Also you need to check to see if the gear set for a 3 speed will interchange.
